Rebecca Wells Phillips is a promising author in Asheville, North Carolina. Devoted to reading and writing in high school, she published Hating Self and Loving Self by Boo Black (Autobiographies) and Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu (Adult LGBTQ Fiction). Rebecca never imagined she’d have a career in something she loved so much. Born in a small town in East Tennessee, the author has gained
momentum with the writing of Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One. As a multi-genre writer, Rebecca has also written poetry and published two short stories (Homeless Again and It’s Only a Dream). However, her interviews with Hurricane Helene victims have lit a fire, and she already has plans for Part Two. Perhaps, she’s found her niche.
Name: Rebecca Wells Phillips, Author

Hobbies/Pastime: Writing Memoirs, Fiction, and Historical Non-Fiction books, reading, and riding our Yamaha V-Star motorcycle
Business/Talent? I’ve never met a stranger, and I make friends easily. I’ve been told I’m an Empath and that I’m an Arcturian Starseed (if you believe in all that). I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts with a focus on Broadcast Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.
Where are you from? Bluff City, Tennessee, is my hometown, but I have lived in Asheville, North Carolina, since 2015.
What are you passionate about? What’s the driving force behind it? I am passionate about writing stories and encouraging others to write their truths and share themselves with the world. I wrote my first book, Hating Self by Boo Black, to discuss my childhood growing up in a predominantly white town in Tennessee and dealing with self-hatred, self-harm, and depression. I wanted to emphasize that we’re
not alone and we all have a purpose. I want to help lower the number of suicides in this country.
What would you say to those who are starting out in your field? Don’t give up and don’t be discouraged. I wrote an article on Influentialwomen.com called “You Want to Write a Book, So Do It Now” to encourage others to share their stories. Being an author is far from being easy, but it’s definitely worth it. However, there are a lot of sharks in the water, so it’s good to have a mentor or someone you can trust to help you figure things out.
Fun Fact about you? I was married to a man for 31 years and separated from him in February to move in with my lesbian girlfriend. Sometimes, we’re not meant to live the life that society tells us to live.
What is your favorite quote? Explain? Since high school, I’ve tried to follow the quote, “Carpe Diem,” which means seize the day. I first heard that quote in the Robin Williams movie, Dead Poets Society. Now that I think about it, its existence is ironic since Robin took his life on August 11, 2014. Life is short, and we must take advantage of every moment and every breath.
If you could leave a lasting legacy, what would that look like? When I leave this world, I want to be remembered as an intelligent and loving woman who sacrificed much of her life to help others by picking them up when others ran the other way.
