From Diamonds to Diamonds: The Journey of Dr. Jenn “Sparkles” Kotzur

By the time she was a junior at Stockdale High School in a small Texas town of just 2,000, Jenn Kotzur had already been lit with a spark to lead. Inspired by small-business-owning parents, coaches, and teachers—each one leaving their imprint—she realized she was called to serve, lead, and inspire through sports, music, education, and faith. That calling would eventually carry her across states, into stadiums, and back home again—trading pageant diamonds for baseball diamonds without ever losing her sparkle.

Her path was far from linear. In the wake of COVID-19, Jenn moved to Florida for education and career opportunities—a leap of faith that came with cultural shocks, misread contracts, and unresolved challenges back home. Yet every twist, including a stint with the Orlando Magic, opened doors. A return to Texas brought her back to the sport that had connected her to her father and uncle: baseball. With the San Antonio Missions, she found more than a job—she found a platform for community engagement, sports education, and mentorship.

In a male-dominated industry, Jenn refuses to fit the mold. “I’m not the Glinda in this story—I’m the Elphaba,” she says with a laugh. Her sparkle is more than rhinestones; it’s grit, skill, and a knack for bringing people together. Supported by leaders like David Baez and Brian Yancelson, she’s been given space to be unapologetically herself—twirling batons on dugouts, creating “Missions Magic,” and proving that pearls shine brightest when they’re unapologetically real.

Jenn’s leadership philosophy is rooted in faith, authenticity, and service. She credits her “Mama Bear” and early coaches with planting the seeds that would grow into her relentless drive. She has learned the hard way to protect her authenticity from those who view leadership as a masquerade. “The truth will always win,” she says. “Titles mean nothing—life is more precious than gold.”

Her proudest moments aren’t awards or job titles but the connections she’s built—like mentoring young athletes who once cheered her on from the stands. And what advice would she give to her younger self? Be patient, have grace, and know that when you arrive, your tiger troops will be waiting. From the bleachers to the boardroom, from sequins to stadium lights, Dr. Jenn Kotzur is rewriting the playbook for women in sports leadership—one sparkle, one swing, and one leap of faith at a time.
