Florence Malone-Crump: Fabulously Winning The Battle

On June 11, 2019, I received what I thought was a death sentence. What I didn’t realize at the time was that God was preparing me for a journey—one filled with faith, victory, trust, and self-discovery.

Hearing the words “triple-negative breast cancer” is something no woman ever wants to experience. Yet that day became the starting point of a transformation I never could have imagined. Since then, I’ve faced not one, but three cancer diagnoses—including two battles with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Today, by the grace of God, I stand as a three-time cancer survivor.

The road hasn’t been easy, but my faith and trust in God have carried me through every valley. In the midst of my fight, I accomplished something that once felt impossible—I earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Management. Since entering remission, I’ve joined the sisterhood of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., enrolled more than 3,000 children in preschool programs, launched a ministry, and was honored as a 2025 Cincinnati Enquirer Woman of the Year. I also proudly serve as an advocate for the American Cancer Society, using my voice to inspire and uplift others walking this same path.

Yet even with all these blessings, I remain mindful of my body and, if I’m honest, sometimes fearful of the “C” word. But then I remember—God did not give me the spirit of fear. He gave me power, love, and a sound mind. I am victorious in all that He allows me to do. And so is every woman who continues to fight, to hope, and to believe.
